Tag Galaxy

In this blog I'm going to write about a web 2.0 application that could be useful in the world of education. The application that I have decided to look at is called Tag Galaxy.

http://taggalaxy.de/

This website could be good for education because if a student can't think of what something is called but they really need it for an assignment or project it is very helpful. To get going with Tag Galaxy you type in an initial word that has something to do with the object or thing you are thinking about and it will give you a list of characteristics, pick one that has something to do with what you are thinking of then it gives you more options to click on to do with that.

The name galaxy is given to it because the word that you choose comes up as a big planet in the middle of the solar system with lots of little planets around it giving more options. Once you've clicked on everything to do with what you are talking about it will give you many photos that it thinks is to do with your object that it has.

I think this could be very helpful in education and I think it should be used.

Swansea in the Captial One Cup

In this blog I am going to talk about the Swans in the Capital one cup.

Last night Swansea played Chelsea in the second leg of the Semi-final to try and book a spot in the final of the Capital One Cup. Bradford City had already booked their place in it the night before that after beating Aston Villa 4-3 on aggrugrate.

The first game Swansea played Chelsea was at Stamford Bridge which is the home of Chelsea so no one expect to Swansea to even get a draw. Swans did win though 2-0 with a little help from Chelsea defender Ivanovic who made two vital mistakes which lead to the Swans two goals. The first goal was scored by Michu then that was followed up by an injury time goal from Danny Graham.

That left the second leg to be played. All Swans needed to do was to win, draw or lose by less than two goals. Near the end of the game a Chelsea player got sent off for kicking a ball boy in the ribs (I know the ball boy). This pretty much took the air out of Chelsea and they didnt have anymore chances which means the game finished 0-0 so Swansea go through 2-0 on aggrugrate.

Therefore this means that Swansea will play Bradford in the final of the Capital One Cup in Wembely and I will be there!

The Snow

In this blog I am going to write about what I did during the snow day that we have had recently in Swansea.

I woke up, looked out my window and was disappointed when I saw little snow on the floor of my garden. Therefore, me  and my girlfriend (Amy) expected to be going to University and College that day. However, when I rang my mum she said that just a couple of miles up the road in Newton, there was thick snow on the ground and most school's had been cancelled.

Me and Amy listened to the radio and were pleased to hear that both Gorseinon College and Swansea Metropolitan University had been closed due to the weather conditions. Having the day off was great news and we got changed into thick layers straight away and head over to my mum's house to play in her garden with my younger sister. The three of us went out in the snow and were back inside my mum's house within two minutes of leaving! I am not good with snow as it is, but without any gloves I found it too hard to handle the snow and our thoughts of making a snow man went out the window.

Once we were back inside me and Amy decided to walk back to mumbles - where I live - which we found was a bad idea, 25 minutes later.

Swansea City Football Club

I am a very big sports fan with my main love being for football. I have had a season ticket with "the swans" since I was two years old (almost 17 years now). Ive seen Swansea be at the foot of the bottom division there is and I was loving it back then so you can't imagine my excitment at them being 9th in the top division and playing very well under a footballing Bacelona legend such as Michael Laudrup.

At the moment my favourite player is Michu because he is scoring many goals for us which is leading us to win games but whenever talking about Swansea you have to mention Lee Trundle. Lee Trundle was everybodies favourite player because he was so passionate about the club and he was also a goal scoring machine.

Hull ten seasons ago will always be the biggest game in Swansea's history. We won the game 4-2 which kept us in the league even though relegation seemed likely earlier on in the season. James Thomas scored a hat-trick with Lennie Johnrose scoring one to help the Swans to victory. On loan Neil Cutler also had a very good game in goals to stop Hull from scoring more.

I will probably be doing some more post about Swansea in the future so this is not all you are going to hear from me about this subject.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

In this blog I am going to write about the new release in the cinema - Texas Chainsaw Massacre - in 3D!

I went to see this film with my girlfriend, as a prescreening - before the actual release date - and found it quite disappointing. Aside from the 3D effects with chainsaws flying towards your face, the film contained a weak story line and a lack of jumpy scenes which is what a good horror film should be made of.

I found the film predictable as most horror films are these days and I thought that there could have been a bigger twist at the end of the film. Instead, I knew how the film would end pretty much ten minutes in to the film.

I would not recommend going to see this film unless you enjoy knowing the story line and A LOT of blood and gore!

Web 2.0

In this blog I am going to talk about web 2.0. I am going to explore the positives and negatives of web 2.0 and also she what it does.

Some examples of web 2.0 websites are social networks, blogs, web apps and sites where you can share video's.

Some of the pro's of web 2.0 are that it allows users on social network sites to interact with eachother and see what people are saying. Another positive of web 2 is the possibility of learning through it as a student or even when you have finished education still learning as an adult. Another positive is that it cost very little if not free to use them so you won't be breaking the bank to talk to friends like many do having an expensive mobile phone.

Some of the cons of web 2 are that information about a person can be accessed by pretty much everyone on the web and some uses write too much information about themselves which leaves anyone who wants to know things eg. where they live, how old they are and relationship status open to them which could end up being very dangerous.

On the whole I think web 2.0 is a very good thing to have available to us but we should not abuse it and go and put too much information about ourselves on it.

Educational Blog

In this blog I am going to talk about educational blogs and a certain one that I follow because I feel like it is worthy of following.

The blog that I am going to talk about is Mandy's a new approach.

http://mandy-newapproach.blogspot.co.uk/

This is a good example of an educational blog and it interests me because she talks about different sorts of apps on the web and she shows her attempt at using them. I enjoy this because all the apps that she uses are fun and I like to attempt some of them after I read about them. Mandy also talks a lot about the internet and web 2.0 which interests me quite a lot as well because she brings up good points about the latest things that are happening on the web.

Mandy is also a frequent blogger which is a good thing because if she didn't blog a lot I probably would stop looking at her blogs and lose interest. Her blog has also been running for a while now so it has been easy to follow her and what she likes due to some of her past blogs before I was even blogging.

I hope she keeps up the good blogs and I look forward to reading her next one.

The father's big 48th!

In this blog I am going to talk about my dad's birthday present and The Harvester.

This week it was my dad's birthday and to celebrate his "big 48th" and so I bought him the new 'Football Manager 2013' which is worth £40. However I got it in the sale and it only cost £20. Why not let him believe that I spent £40 on him though? He really liked the present but moments after giving it to him I stole it and I havent got been off the game since!

I went to the harvester with my parents, sister and my girlfriend - Amy. We love The Harvester, but what made our decision was the "20% off your food bill" voucher that we had from a previous visit.

I ordered the mixed grill - steak, half a chicken breast, a gammon steak, sausage, chips and corn on the cob. Most people would think that this was not achievable, but I licked the plate clean and even ordered a large sundae for desert!

I would definitely recommend The Harvester's mixed grill to all those meat lovers out there.

TED Video

For this blog I have decided to view one of the video's on TED.com. The video I have chosen is a sky diving video and I did this because I enjoy sport and taking risks. In the video Ueli Gegenschatz tells us about sky diving and all the differnt ways you can do it. For example you have sky surfing and sky standing as well. In the video he also shows us pictures of formations you can fall down in and also differnt positions you can put your body in while doing it. He also shows us how he films all his dives by putting a video camera on the helmet that he has or one of the other people diving have. I found this video really interesting and this website shows videos I normally wouldn't look at but I am glad that I have because I enjoyed myself and ended up looking at a few more video's I saw in the sports catagories Sam x
